Let's start at the very beginning...

Updated: May 5

Hello gentles all, and welcome to the inaugural blog post of Quills and Cosmos Press!

Let's start off by introducing who we*1 are and what we do.

Quills and Cosmos Press is a small, independent, woman-owned, traditional publishing house. We publish science fiction and fantasy novels written by women, BIPOC, LGBTQ+, and other minorities.*2 We will also be donating a percentage of proceeds to bookish children's charities. (More on that later!)

As Quills and Cosmos Press has just become official,*3 and we're a while away from being able to actually publish- we're here to talk about the journey a small publisher takes to become a reality.

This will include everything we go through. The intent is transparency — posting everything*4 we do, learn, read, and experience on our way to, and through, publishing sci-fi & fantasy novels. We intend to share all the books we've already ingested, along with reviews. Bits of paid content (conferences, webinars, seminars, etc.) will be disseminated*5 here.*6

We're also on social media!*7 Find us on Instagram, Threads, Pinterest, and Facebook.

If any or all of this sounds interesting to you, sign up below to be notified when we post new blog entries. You'll also be the first to hear about our cool new books and discounts!

That's all for now folks. Stay tuned for updates coming soon about attendance at a big conference on independent publishing, and a book review or two.

Ta!

*1 Using the royal "we" here (a nosism), as there's currently only me, Meagan, wearing all the hats. Hi! (jump back)

*2 Basically, if you're not the default person of the patriarchal standard, we want to read your book! (jump back)

*3 Filed as an LLC one week ago, on the eve of National Small Business week. Serendipitous, yes? (jump back)

*4 Hold onto your hats, this could get messy. (jump back)

*5 What a terrible word. (jump back)

*6 You won't get everything, but I'll give tidbits. No use getting sued, right? (jump back)

*7 We have accounts anyway. First hire might be a social media intern. Drop a comment in the form below if you're interested! (jump back)

*8 Don't say X. We're there too, but not posting. Possibly ever. (jump back)
